Dr. R. P. Mohapatra M.A. (History), Dip-in-Archaeology, Ph.D, D.Litt was former Curator (Archaeology) in Orissa State Museum, Born in an Orthodox Bramhin Family especially attached to Royal Family of Dhenkanal. He was the eldest son of Sitanath Paramguru the Zamindar and Moti Devi and married to Kusum Mohapatra.

Besides being a museologist of long standing, Dr. R.P. Mohapatra M.A., Dip-in-Archaeology, Ph.D., D.Litt., was a reputed archaeologist with a diploma from School of Archaeology, Delhi. He was one of the few scholars in Orissa who was, it may be said, Born for Archaeology, to borrow a phrase made famous by the most noted archaeologist in India H.D. Sankalia. Dr. Mohapatra has visited almost all the museums in India as well as excavated sites and monuments. He was the author of many research papers which have been published in India and abroad.

Dr. Ramesh Prasad Mohapatra (Dr. R.P. Mohapatra) 's unstinting dedication for enriching and popularising Orissan Art, Archaeology, History, Culture, and Religion is un-parallel.

His Collection of Antiquities and rare archaeological artefacts proudly displayed in Orissa State Museum, Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India is an eye opener for outsiders as well as insiders. His magnificent volumes, acknowledged as magnum opus, on Orissan Art, Archaeology, Architecture, Cultural History, Military History, History and religion based on creative and pain-staking research regarded as pioneering effort in poularising true Orissan grandeaur.

During 25 years of eventful career, his contribution to Orissan Art, Architecture, Archaeology, Culture, Religion and History is so deep its impossible to think about Orissan Art, Architecture, Archaeology, Culture, Religion and History without him. Its a great loss to the scholarlly world who is working on Orissan Studies. He died at a comparatively young age of 49 years only.

His interdisciplinary approach to history and archaeology in accountability of details of facts made him great Historian and Archaeologist
